FAST FORWARD FALL 2024
We have fast forwarded to Fall! Where did the last 2 seasons go??
It's hard to believe we are days away from another new month!
Where do the months, weeks, days and hours go?
We had a beautiful summer and fall so far, so that makes up for how quickly the time has flown.
Just going to take a few minutes to get everyone caught up on what's happening at My Ol' Blues!
Pink Bins at our Transfer Station?
Have you seen those 4 pink bins at our local transfer station?
They are Sic Sox Bins!
We are very excited to have linked up with them and their new program.
Our scraps get picked up at our shop by Roy once a week and then they head north to be shredded and set aside to be reused in their future projects.
We have reduced our actual waste per week to approximately a half a bag of garbage. We will continue to look at ways of diverting our waste and what ultimately then goes to the landfill.
Sic Sox mission:
'To offer a one-of-a-kind textile recycling program that provides communities and citizens with a way to participate in landfill diversion of clothing and textiles, with measurable benefits to the North.
Household and industrial textiles in all conditions Bedding, towels, pillows in all conditions Clothing in all conditions Gently used shoes and handbags Stuffed animal toys.
Once collected, textiles are brought back to their Headquarters in Brunswick House First Nation(near Chapleau) where the volume is weighed and sorted.
Gently used donations will be cleaned and resold online at sicsoxcircular.ca or at our thrift store location.
The landfill-quality material is then diverted to our shredder breaking the textiles down to usable fibers.
In our pilot year, our goal is to turn this cellulose fiber into an industry approved housing insulation product!'
"Recycling/Upcycling"
We always have some form of recycling/upcycling going on in the shop...
Donna Law popped in early September sporting her Maple Leaf Patchwork Recycled Denim Vest.
This one-of-a-kind vest is 18 years old and has several more years to go! What excellent condition she has kept it in - you would never know the fabric already had a life before as 2-3 pairs of pants!
Donna lives in Thornbury and enjoys volunteering at the Beaver Valley Outreach Treasure Shop.
Thank you for the time you give back to your community and glad you receive such enjoyment from it. I am sure you are very much appreciated.
It is so important to give back to our communities.
This summer we created Blanket Jackets using the pockets, waistbands, and legs from our "huge stash" of denim jeans and pairing up with 2 large scarves.
Through a little recycling/repurposing a simplistic cozy design came together.
The design will be further tweaked, adjusting size and shape. The plan is to create a collection using the Navaho Wool Blend prints we have on hand.

They look so comfy and wash so nicely! I gifted myself all 5, so I should be modelling them on a regular basis! Lol
The lightweight Puffer Vest makes a nice contrast to any top and is very versatile for any season. A fitted women's style perfect to dress up a little or go casual.

She makes an ideal model, especially when it comes to leg length! We have a few shorties in the shop.

WOW! Can't believe another year has flown by.
I want to take a moment and thank all our customers who continue to support us year after year.
Over this past year we have enjoyed all visits with our local, returning and new customers.
I have also enjoyed a few phone calls and emails from some customers that have yet to make it Manitoulin or weren't able to get here this year.
